The 2025 International South China Two Wheeler Stunt Competition concluded successfully on November 15th-16th at Flysail Mountain World in Guangzhou’s Huangpu District. Following a six-year hiatus since its last edition in 2019, this event has been restructured and elevated to an international level now, attracting nearly 600 professional mountain bikers from 10 countries and regions, including France, Belgium, Canada, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and China. Sponsored by 36 bicycle brands, the competition established itself as Asia’s premier mountain biking event, emphasizing professional standards and community engagement.

The event featured eight categories, expanding from its traditional focus on extreme biking to align with international mountain biking protocols. These included Cross-Country Olympic (XCO), Dual Slalom (2X DS), Pump Track, 4X, Enduro, E-MTB Enduro, Downhill (DH), and Trial. The diverse range catered to various skill levels and age groups, with participants ranging from 4 to 57 years old.
The XCO race was held on the first day of the event. In the race, the most notable rider was Japan’s (Yukiyama Yamamoto), who has won 10 Asian Championship titles during his career. He leads Asia’s sole professional mountain bike team, Asia Union TCS.
Now working as a team coach, Yamamoto finished in 8th place in the Men’s Elite XCO category. In the meantime, Ayaka Hiyoshi, team member of Asian Union TCS , won 1st place in the women’s XCO race.
After the race, Yamamoto commented, “The XCO course was short but quite difficult. It was very challenging for the riders. The event was very well-organized. If it can get UCI points in the future, it will certainly attract more international riders. I hope to come back and compete again next year.”

The 4X race was the most exciting event on the first day. After the qualifying rounds, the finalists for the men’s open group were decided. They were the new European Champion Simon Chapelet, Zhang Si qi from the Shenzhen XDS Little Bear Team, Jiang Sheng Shan, and Zhang You Lun.
In the end, Taiwanese rider Zhang You Lun won the championship. He used excellent line-choice tactics to secure the victory.
The center of the attention in entire event was the Downhill race on the second day. Zhou Pei Ni from the Shenzhen XDS Little Bear Team won the women’s open category. Li Hai Xin from the Beijing NTP Racing Team finished in 2nd place.
In the men’s elite category, the top three riders all finished with times around 2 minutes and 12 seconds. The difference between them was less than 0.7 second. Tu Xuan Zhou from the WINICE factory team won the championship. Jiang Sheng Shan came in 2nd, and Simon Chapelet finished 3rd.

Zhou Pei Ni emerged as the top performer throughout this year, sweeping four gold medals in women 2X DS, 4X, Enduro, and DH, outperforming compatriot Li Hai Xin in multiple events. Taiwanese rider Chiang Sheng-Shan, participating in four categories, highlighted the educational value of competing against international athletes. Tu Xuan Zhou, an explosive newcomer to DH with two years of experience, won the men’s elite category and expressed intent to pursue further international competitions.
International participants provided positive feedback. Korean rider Juho Hong noted the event’s role in promoting youth involvement in China. Simon Chapelet, new European DH Champion praised the depth of local talent and the unique track designs, indicating interest in facilitating greater European participation in future editions.
The revival of the International South China Two Wheeler Stunt Competition, in partnership with Flysail Mountain World, represents a strategic advancement for the mountain biking sector in Asia. The inclusion of emerging formats like E-MTB Enduro reflects the growing integration of electric bicycle technology, a segment projected to expand significantly in global markets. By hosting riders from diverse regions, the event enhances cross-cultural exchanges and elevates regional infrastructure standards.
Event founder Xu Rong Yu attributed the success to industry support, venue collaboration, and participant enthusiasm, underscoring the potential for sustained growth in mountain bike culture. Recommendations for UCI point allocation could position the competition as a key fixture on the international calendar, driving increased investment and talent development.

This edition demonstrates the event’s evolution into a platform for professional competition, athlete development, and industry promotion, contributing to the broader expansion of mountain biking in the region. Notably, the course designs exhibited high professionalism, differing from European standards yet accommodating global competitors effectively.
For instance, in the Downhill event, Simon Chapelet observed that European tracks are typically wider, allowing riders to select varied lines, whereas Asian tracks like those at Flysail are narrower, requiring most participants to follow similar paths and thus adding a layer of technical challenge.
Simon Chapelet also shared his thoughts about the Two Wheeler event. He said, “I am surprised to see so many downhill mountain bike riders in China, especially those who started training at a very young age. This is my first time competing in China. The style of the downhill course is different from those in Europe, but I liked it. I enjoy different styles of trails.”
The event’s facilities maintained top-tier standards, including electronic gate starts, chip timing, real-time tracking of routes and positions on central displays, and instant score rankings to enhance spectator engagement. Astonishing rapid post-production editing ensured that daily highlights were uploaded as promotional videos by evening onto our phone screens, demonstrating exceptional efficiency. Bilingual hosting, featuring Chinese and international announcers, invigorated the atmosphere by blending local and foreign styles, creating a vibrant on-site experience.

The presence of numerous Chinese brands offering high-quality equipment provided local enthusiasts with access to premium hardware, enriching the domestic market. Through this successful revival, the competition has stimulated international rider exchanges at the venue, poised to elevate China’s market standards and nurture emerging talents for the future.
